Making Data Count: An introduction to SPC reporting
This webinar will act as an introduction to SPC reporting and how it can be used as a shared reporting language across your organisation hosted by the national Making Data Count team at NHS England.
Description
In recent years, statistical process control (SPC) has been widely adopted for quality, performance and workforce reporting and is now frequently used by NHS boards, senior managers and clinicians. But the Making Data Count team at NHS England are keen for it to be adopted by all staff and to become a shared language amongst departments.
SPC is an analytical technique that plots data over time. It helps us understand variation and is used to understand whether changes being made result in improvement. Presenting performance data - whether operational, financial or workforce can aid with triangulation and can facilitate cross-department and cross-organisational working.
This will be an interactive session which explores both the basics of SPC as well as its potential use to present performance, financial and workforce data.
We hope that you will come away from this session feeling empowered to present and communicate with other teams in your organisation through a common language.
Speakers
Samantha Riley
Director – Making Data Count, NHS England
Samantha has worked for the NHS for over 20 years holding a variety of improvement-focused roles in different areas of the health sector including leading a system-wide improvement program in West London.
Samantha is passionate about the utilisation of data and information to support improvements in patient care and is a self-confessed ‘information junkie’. In particular, Samantha is a proponent of using Statistical Process Control (SPC) to look at data rather than two point comparisons and Red Amber Green (RAG). Samantha is the author of the highly successful guides Making Data Count and over the past three years has undertaken a considerable amount of work with Trust boards to help them understand how to use data to better effect. As a result of this work, 100% of boards have made the decision to move away from RAG reporting and adopted SPC as their preferred approach.
