From EPR Implementation to Measurable Value: Why usability is the missing link for NHS digital leaders

Attendees will gain a practical understanding of why usability is a critical link between EPR implementation and measurable value. The session will explore how user experience affects adoption, productivity, workforce experience, patient safety and return on investment, and how national survey insights can help organisations identify where optimisation effort should be focused.

NHS organisations have made significant investment in Electronic Patient Records, but implementation alone does not guarantee measurable value. The next challenge for digital leaders is ensuring that EPRs are usable, adopted effectively and embedded into clinical and operational workflows in a way that improves productivity, staff experience, patient safety and return on investment.

This webinar will explore why EPR usability should be seen as a strategic leadership issue, not a cosmetic or technical concern. Drawing on national EPR user experience insights, international benchmarking and Digital, Data and Technology workforce perspectives, the session will consider how usability influences adoption, workflow fit, cognitive load, training needs, workforce confidence and benefits realisation.

Delegates will hear how user experience data can help organisations move beyond anecdote, identify the factors that are limiting EPR value, and prioritise practical optimisation activity. The discussion will focus on what digital leaders can do within their own organisations, including strengthening business cases, targeting training and support, improving governance, addressing infrastructure barriers and putting user needs at the centre of digital transformation.
